I wish I had known about her before this. She sounds amazing. I so agree with her. And from my vantage point as a senior citizen, I try to impress all the young scrappers I know-when your children are 60 they will not care one bit about their 3rd birthday party if you are not in the picture! I have such a very very few pictures of my parents and myself-and they are the only ones that matter now. So get in all the pictures you can every time you can-they will thank you for it.

this is beautiful, Emily. you and Aleida are both so very correct about this. all the pictures i've ever seen of my mother have all been beautiful...i didn't see anything except mother and, more recently, friend. i was inspired to do this by Aleida as well, but have gotten away from it. thanks for reminding me.

Aleida was amazing and I was lucky to count her as one of my friends. I think it is awesome how much she touched the scrapping community. Saw your link on a friend's page and I am inspired by this post! I take millions upon millions of pictures of my precious daughter, but I rarely make a debut in said photos. I blog about her constantly but there are never pics of my husband and I on there. I am going to just get over my insecurities and take pictures of myself and my little beauty. All she's going to care about someday is that I WAS THERE!! Thank you for the inspiration!

I learned something too. You never look half as back say 25 yrs ago as you thought you did! I look at them now and think wow! I looked pretty good.

Thank you for reminding me of this great truth.
Your post made me cry. I don't even know this woman but to see what she was able to pass on her to children is such a treasure.

You are absolutely right. This post brought tears to my eyes. I have to remember that it is important for my children to see me as a part of their lives, not just always somebody 'behind the camera.' This is especially hard for me right now, as I'm 9 months pregnant and feeling very unattractive....but you're right, the kids won't care about that. they'll love me anyway. :)

One of the first sets of pictures I ever scrapbooked was my oldest daughter at 4 getting on a friend's horse for the 1st time. I almost threw away the pictures because I look like a heffer - my shirt is too tight and I have multiple spare tires, and my pants are too tight making the part behind the zipper quite bulge-y. After I scrapped the pictures (mainly to see if I could do it), my daughter ooohed and aaahed and never once said, "mama, you look so fat here." I am what I am and all my daughters care about when they look at those pictures is that I was with them. I try to be a lot less critical of how we look when I'm taking photos now... Thanks for the public reminder to everyone!
