a midnight exchange

They lay in the still, quiet, darkness - almost asleep.
She found his hand in the covers and held it.
"I love you so much. You make me so happy." she whispered.
A moment passed.
Then he placed her hand over his heart.
"You made my heart race." he said.

Still in love.

I'm so glad. I want to be this happy and in love for as long as possible. More than one person has warned me that it will end. I'm sure it will change, but I like reading about examples of people who stay happy. It is possible.

Emilie - This made me smile. Exchanges like this with my husband are better than any material gift I could receive.

The Mrs.: It can happen!! I'll be married ten years this May. I'm happier now than the day I said "I do". It's not easy; it involves hard work and occasionally some uncomfortable conversations. But it is totally possible!!!

This made me smile and cry. I'm getting married in March (61 days, as The Knot delights in telling me), and like The Mrs up there, I keep hearing about how hard it is for people to stay married longer than a few years. It's so disheartening and scary. My own mom was married three times, and is now single and swears she'll never marry again. I don't want that for myself. I want to be in it for good, and I want to have little midnight exchanges like this 5, 10, 20, and 50 years down the road. Thanks for this little glimpse into what it can be like!

Emily Foley - We then fell asleep holding hands. Now don't you feel like a perve?

No I do NOT, Ahern. It was a natural assumption.
