QUESTION: What's Your Favorite Bible Verse and Why?
Now, that's not too tough. But funny enough I have never really thought about this. My "scriptures" include additional books of scripture and my favorite verse of scripture is found in the Book of Mormon. I love the Bible, but had not singled out a single verse which was my favorite for quite some time.
A. Isaiah 40: 28-31
Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
This passage came to mind immediately after really thinking about the question. What more amazing promises could there be? I think that in all religions there has to be an element of faith. No amount of certainty can erase the need for complete and utter faith. But sometimes that faith is difficult to sustain when the world shouts at you from every corner that religion is a crutch, a farce, a myth that those who cannot stand on their own.In my mind I always feel as if the reference to youth and young men fainting away is really a metaphor for the worldly whisperings of doubt. And that those who the world would label weak are made strong by their faith and dependence on the Lord. So many times in my life I have felt exhausted...spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally, but this passage serves as a reminder that true, lasting strength comes from above.

Matt. 5: 14-16 - "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
LOVE this verse. It has a special place in my heart. ♥

One of my favorite scriptures from the Bible is John 16:33.
"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
I just adore your blog! (Been blog stalking you for a few months now)
My favorites, which have brought me a lot of clairty are:
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. -James 1:2-3
but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
-Isaiah 40-31
Interesting, my favorite Bible verse also comes from Isaiah. 49:15-16 "Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me." Comes from a time when I wasn't sure I was important to anybody, and didn't have much faith. But I literally read that verse one time and I knew--Christ suffered and died for all of us, but he would have done it just for me. He cannot forget me because he has the scars on his hands, feet, and side to remind Him. Just like I would do anything for my boys, He would (and has) done it for me.
John 3:16... cause I memorized in when I was four.
Thanks for the uplift, Em. What a great verse! That could become one of my new favorites.
my favorite verse changes as i go through different seasons of my life, but my current fave is Isaiah 43:1-4: But now, this is what the Lord says - he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you, I have summoned you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, Your Savior....You are precious and honored in my sight....because I love you."
I have found myself living these verses recently.
"Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us." Rom 5:1-5(NIV)
my favorite verse is a tie between Numbers 21:8 (look to God and live)
and Dan. 12:3 (the wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever).
Thanks for sharing that. I love your insights into the verse. I have a hard time with "favorites" of anything...I just have lots of favorites...including scriptures.
I have many but two that come to mind are:
3 John 1:4
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
*My heart's desire is to know that my children have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior and are seeking to walk in the Truth of His Word.
Proverbs 17:22
A cheerful heart is good medicine but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
*I read 'Created to Be His Helpmeet' by Debi Pearl and she talks about this scripture. In everything we do - child training, our daily work, relating to our husband, etc - we should seek to be cheerful. It's hard but when I actually put it into practice I've been greatly blessed :-)
