Well.....we totally WON FIRST PLACE!
WAHOO!!!

Now, we made up the recipe as we went along,
but we wrote it down after the fact and we're 99% sure we remembered it all!
BLUE RIBBON TURKEY AND BEAN CHILI
This chili has mild/medium heat.
Serves 6-8

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1.5 pound ground turkey
2 (15 ounce) cans black beans, undrained
1 (15 ounce) can pinto beans, undrained
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
1 T chili powder
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1.5 tsp cumin
1.5 tsp dried oregano
1.5 tsp dried basil leaves
1.5 tsp garlic salt
1/4 c. diced pickled jalapenos
2 Bay leaves
salt and pepper to taste
- Saute onion and garlic in oil until onions are translucent.
- Add turkey. Cook until meat is browned.
- Transfer to crock pot. Stir in all other ingredients.
- Cook on low 4-5 hours.
- Remove bay leaves and use a potato masher to mash some of the cooked beans to thicken the chili.
- Serve garnished with cheddar cheese, sour cream and corn bread.
*If you want to you could add 1 c. frozen corn to this as well.
