BEST DRESSED FEMALES...

Toni Collette looked glowing in this beaded gown that was perfectly fit to her body. And the hair and make-up are also flawless.

Kristen Bell looks young and fresh in this short gown. I would have gone with a different color for the shoe, but she looks fantastic anyway!

Ginnifer Goodwin always gets it right and tonight was no exception.

Jennifer Garner looked great in this gown (you had to see the back of the gown...it was amazing!) I feel torn about her hair style, but I think overall she looks really good.

Anna Paquin looks like a a sleek, stylish lead actress in this golden gown with a high back and plunging V neckline. Gorgeous.
BEST DRESSED MALES...

Leonardo DiCaprio gets it sooo right in this well tailored suit. He looks like a flawless male movie star.

Corey Monteith from Glee also makes a statement in a slightly shiny suit that is well cut and perfectly age-appropriate.
BEST DRESSED COUPLE...

Emily Blunt and John Krasinski both looked fabulous! His hair is a touch too wet looking for my taste, but overall they look smashing!
USE AND ABUSE OF PURPLE...

Jane Krakowski looks stunning in this glorious purple gown. This is a perfect example of the dramatic effect you get when your gown color is dramatically in contrast to your skin color. Nicely done!

Fergie also looked stunning in this soft lavender gown. I was not crazy about the hair, but she makes up for it with the gown's clean lines and flawless fit.

However, Sandra Bullock looks weird. The top of the dress is okay, but the bottom is a waspy mess resembling tissue paper.

Leona Lewis also struggled, despite wearing the color of the night. This gown does not fit properly and is puckered, wrinkled and bunched in all of the wrong places.
CLOSE, BUT NO CIGAR...AGAIN!

Once again, Drew Barrymore almost got it right. However, the tumor of fabric jutting out from her hip is awful and the dress color is much too close to her natural skin tone.
MUCH TOO CASUAL...

Julia Roberts looks ready for a nice casual dinner, not the Golden Globes.
For shame, Julia! I expect more from you!

And Michael C. Hall nabbed an award and a spot on the too casual list with his inappropriate black beanie. *UPDATE: Many angry blog commenters have let me know that Michael is fighting cancer...hence the beanie. Sorry Michael! I didn't know!

Perrey Reeves looks similarly too casual in this cocktail style dress.
WORST DRESSSED...

I have slammed Tina Fey for always showing up in boring black gowns, but this get-up made me long for the sleek and more boring days. The cut and print of the dress plus the ill-matched shoes make for a laughable look...but not in a good way.

Kate Hudson's dress was supposed to look structured, but just looked stiff and awkward. Add the crazy shoes and you've got a disaster.

January Jones' headband is so completely distracting, but not distracting enough to move focus from her oddly constructed dress which visually cuts her body in half too many times.

Juliana Margulies managed to look like a Trekkie. Am I right?! And check out the hair frizz. I know it was raining and all, but other actresses somehow pulled off a managed hair-do, so you can too.

I will never understand how she did it, but Amy Adams managed to make herself look chubby in this ill fitting, 50's inspired, green gown and mom-hair. The cool orange heels tried to save it, but couldn't. *UPDATE: Bun in the oven or not, we have seen GORGEOUS preggie red carpet looks in the past....this is still a horrid choice!

And maybe the worst dressed woman of the night, Julianna Moore made grave errors in every single aspect of this look from the neck down. It's just plain awful.
Whew! Well, what do YOU think?

Michael C. Hall is wearing a beanie because he's going through cancer treatments.
Amy Adams is pregnant. If I could get pregnant, anyone could call me chubby at any time.
Just thought you'd like to know the reasons for those two fashion "don't"s.
Just echoing the poster above - Michael C. Hall has just spent the last year undergoing aggressive chemotherapy in his fight against Hodgkins Lymphoma which resulted in substantial hair loss, there's nothing wrong or inappropriate with him choosing to wear a beanie - in fact I think it was most courageous of him to be there at all under the circumstances.
Michael C Hall beanie = Hodgkins Disease and Amy Adams chubby = bun in oven. You must not watch the before stuff like on E! because I don't really know who those people are but I watched 1/2 hour of the before stuff and found that out.
agree with all of your assessments except for two, which it looks like others have beaten me to!!! I absolutely adore Michael C. Hall, but had no idea he was undergoing cancer treatments... which does explain the hat!! And Amy Adams, of course... :-)
I agree with everything you said, except I think the worst dress goes to Chloe Sevigny for that horrible dress that actually ripped on stage. Those ruffles were so bad - it really was a dress that deserved to be ripped!
However, overall, I felt that people looked great! Usually there are many more dresses that I think are horrible than I did last night.
I also didn't realize that Amy Adams was preggers, but she clearly looked it (as did Amy Pohler - is she preggers too?) and I didn't know about Michael C. Hall being sick, but after a while of looking at him and seeing how people were responding to him, I decided he was and that was the reason for the hat.
I think my favorite look of the night was Toni Collette. I love her. She is more beautiful everytime I see her and never too gaunt. She is so classy and such a fantastic actress. Love.
ditto with everything everyone else said. There were definitely some stunning gowns last night!
Chloe Sevigny should have been on the 'Worst Dressed List'. Her dress was absolutely hideous.
And I thought Jennifer Aniston's dress was gorgeous!
Oh this is fun to see everyone's opinions. I loved all the ones you didn't:) I thought January jones, Drew and Julia were fabulous. Thanks for the great post:)
I just have to say that I think Reese Witherspoon took the cake for looking absolutely fantastic! Nate and I both agreed that she was stunning.
I totally agree on the Amy Adams thing. She must be at the awkward not-quite-big-enough stage when everyone looks awful. And I thought the same thing about the beanie, I didn't know he had cancer.
I was surprised at Anna Paquin--I do not generally think she's super attractive or very well dressed, but I ADORED her look last night. I also thought Sandra Bullock's dress was pretty, at least when she as up on stage. Not the best picture here, but I thought it was prettier when she was moving.
I thought poor Julia Roberts really bit the dust. Not my favorite look for her. And Drew--everything was monochromatic, even her hair matched. Ugh.
Great choices..I agree as well. Except I thought Kristen Bell's dress might've looked better for that event if it was longer.
AND..your color versions of Drew's dress are waaay better. I thought the purple one was fab and I'm not a fan of purple!
Next red carpet you, me together, food and focus. i love red carpet and am in perfect agreement with you and others i disagree but can't be bothered to do it line by line here, but I always love your opinion. Strong, well supported, and usually pretty good.
oh and also agree with amy adams i was a bit horrified, but agree with emily in that for me that stage was always awkward chubbiness instead of cute baby bump.
I think the angle of on Amy Adams wasn't flattering either. I saw other photos that were much better. I'd rather you used a different word besides chubby anyway...I really dislike weight related criticism.
